Questions concerning Intect®7
What is Intect®7?
The Intect®7 Urine Adulteration Test Strip is a plastic strip affixed with 7 chemically treated pads for assessing the integrity of the urine sample prior to Drugs of Abuse testing. After dipping the strip into the urine sample, visual color examination of the pads can determine:
- Creatinine (testing for sample dilution)
- Nitrite (testing the presence of exogenous nitrite)
- Glutaraldehyde (testing the presence of exogenous aldehyde)
- pH (testing the presence of acidic or alkaline adulterant)
- Specific Gravity (testing for sample dilution)
- Bleach (testing for exogenous bleach and oxidizing reagents)
- Pyridinium Chlorochromate (testing for exogenous pyridinium chlorochromate and oxidizing reagents)
The Intect®7 test strips are ready-to-use and disposable. No equipment is required for its use.

How do I use Intect®7?
Using Intect®7 is very simple. The strip only requires a one minute test time and the test pads are numbered for easy color comparison.
- Allocate a small portion of the urine specimen into a container.
- Dip the test strip in the urine and remove immediately.
- Blot the strip to remove excess urine.
- Read and compare the numbered test pads with corresponding numbered panels in the color chart in one minute.

How do I interpret Intect®7
results?
By comparing the pad color to the chart on the vial, the status (normal or abnormal) of each of the seven parameters can be assessed. This can lead to the determination of the following: - Whether the specimen is possibly diluted with water or other liquids. This results in abnormal levels of creatinine and a change in the specific gravity.
- Whether the specimen contains commercially available adulterants. Common adulterants include nitrite, glutaraldehyde, bleach, pyridinium chlorochromate or other oxidizing agents like "Stealth".
- Whether acidic or basic adulterants was used to contaminate the urine as indicated by the pH test.

How do I ensure that I performed the Intect®7 test properly?
To ensure the performance of the Intect®7 strips, adulterant standards called IntectCheck® are available from the manufacturer. This is a set of 5 standards which when added to the Intect®7 strips would react with the different pads to produce the appropriate normal or abnormal colors.
